Keenious - an artificial intelligence-based search tool for a new kind of information retrieval
The Turku University Library has acquired Keenious, an AI-based search tool that offers a completely new approach to information retrieval. Keenious allows you to search for sources based on text, not keywords. The tool is suitable for use across all disciplines and works both in a web browser and as an add-on to Word’s word processor.
Presentation of Keenious to university students and staff
On Thursday 17th October 2024 at 9.00-9.45, Keenious representative Christian Headley will give a presentation of the application to the university as part of the Turku University Library’s weekly insights on Thursdays. The weekly insights can be found in the Events calendar on the university intranet and on the library’s web pages. Most of the sessions are, however, presented in Finnish but there are also a few in English.
You can attend the presentation at: https://meet.google.com/gip-gniq-iom.
The presentation will be held in English and pre-registration is not required. Welcome to hear the best tips for using Keenious!
A new way to search
With Keenious, you don't have to think about keywords, but can start directly from the text you are interested in. If you have found an interesting source or written your own research, you can use it as a starting point for your search. Keenious will analyse the article, link, selected text section or content you provide and search hundreds of millions of publications for sources on the same topic.
The search results will return articles that are similar in content to the text you are using. You can also customise the results: limit the search term, focus on a specific topic or add new search terms. Although Keenious works in most languages (including Finnish), the best results are obtained with English text.
Keenious uses the OpenAlex database as its source, which contains extensive metadata from research publications. Please note that Keenious does not permanently store the text you download but caches it for about 30 minutes. However, sensitive information should not be entered into the service.
All features are available by logging in
When you log in to Keenious with your UTU credentials, you have access to all the features of the tool. For example, you can save your search results and get a direct link to articles on Volter.
Login instructions:
1. Go to https://keenious.com/auth/sign-up?institution=UTU
2. click on "Sign up with Microsoft" and log in with your UTU credentials.
