New Discounts in Open Access Publication Charges

16.03.2022

Open access publishing benefits researchers in many ways: the visibility and accessibility of research are improved, search engines find open access articles better and they get more citations.

Turku University Library promotes open access publishing in many ways. We give guidance on how to parallel publish articles in our own UTUCRIS-system but we have also negotiated article processing charge discounts with publishers.

Turku University Library has now signed an agreement with Cambridge University Press including the possibility to publish articles openly without a writer's fee in the hybrid and gold titles of the Premium Full Journals collection.

The agreement covers years 2022-2024. The number of free articles available is limited.

The agreement also gives researchers and students at the University of Turku access to several new journals of the CUP. The access covers new issues of these journals as well as a few previous volumes. As usual, the Volter database shows which journals and which years are available.

Addition to this, the FinELib consortium in which the University of Turku is a partner has negotiated notable discounts to the article processing charges, with many major publishers. Under FinELib consortium’s agreement with Elsevier, corresponding authors can now publish their articles open access without charges also in Cell Press hybrid journals eligible for the agreement.

There is a limited number of free open access articles available per year.

For more information about these discounts, please visit the Library’s Open access ResearchGuide.
