The study aims to investigate how the daily intake of Vitamin B3 form supplementation for 6-months affects the brown fat metabolism.
In Turku PET-Centre, researchers have investigated brown fat function and the role it has in human metabolism since 2008. Recently they have discovered that a molecule, Nicotinamide Adenine Dinucleotide (NAD), is critical for optimal function of brown fat. Oral Vitamin B3 supplementations can increase this molecule in the body, and thus they are interested in checking its effects on brown fat metabolism.
Researchers are now recruiting normal-weight and individuals with overweight and obesity (men and women) for our new study.
You may be eligible to participate in the study if:
- You are a man between 30 – 55 years, or a woman between 45 and 55 years
- You are normal weight or overweight
- You do not smoke
- You have no medical conditions.
Study visits
The study includes 8-10 study visits to the Turku PET-Centre over the period of 6-7 months.
- On four of these visit days, PET-computed tomography (PET-CT) scans will be performed.
- The other visit days will include blood sampling for metabolic health measurements.
You will be required to take oral supplements for 6 months.
