The Rector of the University of Turku Jukka Kola has appointed Professor Jaakko Järvi as the Dean of the new Faculty of Technology.
The Rector appointed Jaakko Järvi as the Dean for the term commencing from 1 January 2021 to 31 December 2024. The Faculty of Technology begins operating on 1 January 2021. The University received many applications for the position of the Dean.
Jaakko Järvi defended his doctoral dissertation at the University of Turku in 2000 and was appointed as Professor of Software Engineering in 2019. Before this, Järvi has worked as a professor in the University of Bergen and as an associate professor in Texas A&M University, among others. He has long international experience from different universities and from collaboration with the representatives of the software industry.
Järvi has worked as the Head of the Department of Future Technologies since January 2020.
– Establishing the Faculty of Technology has been a strategic decision for the University. The new faculty will surely have a strongly motivated Dean in Järvi. His strengths include knowledge of the field of technology, vision for developing the activities of the Faculty, and extensive international experience as well as the existing networks and collaboration opportunities brought along by that, says the Rector of the University of Turku Jukka Kola.
Jaakko Järvi will be managing the new Faculty of Technology which has almost 2,000 students. As the University of Turku has been expanding its scope in technology, both the number of students and the number of professors is growing quickly.
