Rector Jukka Kola Selected to Rectors’ Advisory Group in the Coimbra Group

The Coimbra Group, an association of long-established European multidisciplinary universities of high international standard, appointed a new Executive Board and Rectors’ Advisory Group in its General Assembly.

The Coimbra Group is an association of long-established and esteemed European multidisciplinary universities of high international standard committed to creating academic and cultural ties between universities. Its aim is to promote, for the benefit of its members, internationalisation, academic collaboration, excellence in learning and research, and service to society. Another objective of the network is to influence European educational policy and to develop practices by comparing the universities’ experiences.

– Active collaboration with the Coimbra Group is very important for strengthening the internationality and international recognition of the University of Turku. We are one of the seven Coimbra Group universities constituting the European Campus of City-Universities EC2U Alliance that aims to create innovative avenues for collaboration and free mobility between seven European universities and cities. The Coimbra Group is an esteemed expert body in matters concerning education and research policy, for example, in the European Commission, says Rector Jukka Kola.

The University of Turku has been a member of the Coimbra Group since 1995. Altogether, the association of European universities has 41 member institutions. Of the Finnish universities and in addition to the University of Turku, Åbo Akademi University belongs to the Coimbra Group.

Vice Rector Piia Björn is the Coimbra Group Representative of the University of Turku in the General Assembly. The University also has representatives in many of the Coimbra Group’s working groups.
