The Vice Rectors Have Been Selected

Professor Kalervo Väänänen, the future Rector of the University of Turku, has selected Professors Riitta Pyykkö, Kalle-Antti Suominen and Tapio Reponen to be the Vice Rectors for the next term.

​Vice rectors assist the rector with matters that belong to the jurisdiction of the rector.

Professor Riitta Pyykkö will be responsible for education and the development of educational structure, Professor Kalle-Antti Suominen will be responsible for research and the development of research prerequisite and Professor Tapio Reponen will be responsible for the development of the society connections, internationality and education export of the university.

The vice rectors´ term is maximally as long as the rector´s term. Vice rectors are required to be doctors and have the necessary professional and leadership skills.

Before the selection, Professor Väänänen heard the Chairman of the board of the University.

A Linquist, a Physicist and an Information Systems Scientist

Professor Riitta Pyykkö has been the Professor of the Russian language of the University of Turku since 1997. Pyykkö has studied, for example, the language of politics, the cultural history of Russia and the connections of culture and language changes. Pyykkö will be the substitute of Rector Väänänen, in case he is unable to take care of his official duties.

Professor Kalle-Antti Suominen has been the Professor of Physics of the University of Turku from since 2000. He has especially studied the interaction of atoms, molecules and radiation in quantum mechanics.

Professor of Information Systems, Tapio Reponen is at the moment The Vice Rector of University of Turku. He is currently responsible for the development of education and advancement of society and interest group connections. Reponen was the Rector of Turku School of Economics from 1996 to 2009.
