Two Visiting Professor Titles for the Faculty of Law

Professor David Whyte of the University of Liverpool and Professor Steve Tombs of The Open University have been awarded the Visiting Professor title by the Rector of the University of Turku for the period 1.1.2020-31.12.2021. Whyte and Tombs have long been active in research and teaching with the faculty.

For over twenty years, Anne Alvesalo-Kuusi, professor of sociology of law, has had fruitful research collaboration with Tombs and Whyte on the topic 'crimes of the powerful'. Tombs and Whyte are leading researchers in the field, and the collaboration has produced several referee articles, as well as numerous other publications on issues such as Finnish economic crime prevention and methodological and ethical issues related to researching the powerful. Additionally, they have organized international seminars together.

 
Whyte and Tombs have lectured on the specialization course “Corporate Crime, Law and Power” at the faculty during the academic years 2014–2016 and 2018–2019. Both will teach at the faculty again in 2021.
