The University of Turku ranked among the top 1.9% of the world’s universities in the 2026 Center for World University Rankings (CWUR). A total of 21,291 universities were included in the ranking, of which the top 2,000 were listed.

CWUR ranks universities across four categories that evaluate quality of education, quality of research, alumni employment, and the achievements of academic staff. The rankings are conducted without surveys or data submissions from universities.

The University of Turku was ranked 395th globally and placed third among Finnish universities, following the University of Helsinki (130th) and Aalto University (372nd). In total, ten Finnish universities were included in this year’s ranking. Among European universities, the University of Turku placed 152nd.

The top three universities in the global ranking were Harvard University, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and Stanford University.

CWUR has published university rankings since 2012. Initially, the ranking covered the world’s top 100 universities, but today it ranks more than 2,000 universities out of over 20,000 worldwide.
