Record-Breaking Growth in the Number of Applications to the International Master’s degree Programmes of the University of Turku

In the first joint application round of 2023, the international Master’s degree programmes of the University of Turku attracted a total of 5,958 applications. The number of applications grew by a record-breaking 76 percent compared to the number of applications in 2022. The greatest growth was seen in the Master’s degree programmes in Gender Studies and in Mechanical Engineering.

Green Environments in Residential Areas Impact the Composition of Sugar Molecules in Breastmilk

Living in a greener environment has an impact on the composition of oligosaccharides in mother's breastmilk, which in turn may affect the infant’s health. A study conducted at the University of Turku showed that greater diversity and proportion of green environments in the residential area were associated with increased diversity in the composition of the oligosaccharides in breastmilk.

Research Project on the Development of Human Immune System in Early Life Obtains Multimillion Funding

The first few months and years of life are crucial to the development of the human immune system. This is an important phase as the immune system can define which diseases individuals might develop later in life. INITIALISE, a joint research project of ten universities, will study which environmental factors and mechanisms modify the human immune system in early life and whether targeted interventions could have a positive impact. The project obtained nearly seven million in funding from Horizon Europe.
