Research

My main research interests lie in the behavioral ecology and evolutionary biology of birds, with the main focus on sexual and natural selection, parent-offspring conflict, sex allocation and life-history evolution. At the beginning of my postdoctoral stage, I focused my attention on the study of the mechanisms involved in the expression of sexual signals generated by carotenoid pigments and the role of the mitochondrial respiratory chain in this process. This is a promising research line that is placed on a hot topic, the evolution of reliable signals independent of resource-based evolutionary trade-offs.
