Biography

I am professor at the Department of Nursing Science, University of Turku. Within my professorship, I am responsible for regional research and evidence-based nursing development at the Hispital District of Satakunta. My main research areas are prevention and treatment of pressure ulcer, palliative care and health care education. I am a principal researcher of three research projects and have several researchers on my team.   For twelve years (2003-2015) Fot twelve years, I held the position of director at the Helsinki Metropolia University of Applied Sciences in the Faculty of Health Care and Nursing. Since 2005, I have been a member of the Advisory Board of the Tallinn Health College in Estonia.

I am a principal researcher and coordinator of three research projects and have several researchers including post-doc researchers, doctoral students and master students on my team. "Prevention and treatment of pressure ulcer" consists of two sub-studies, with the aim of 1) developing knowledge test and instrument for pressure ulcer prevention, 2) developing pressure ulcer prevention practices based on international guidelines among elderly patients in long-term care, and to evaluate the effectiveness of the care, 3) evaluating knowledge, attitude and consistent practices. The second research project I lead is "Palliative Care". The ultimate goal is to improve quality of care and patients safety. The aim of this three phases study is to describe !) evidence-based practices and competence required in palliative and end-of-life care, and to evaluate palliative and end-of-life care and competence.  "Reforming student selections in nursing education (ReSSNE) consists of three phases. The aim of this project is to develop a reliable national method for selecting students for nurse education. The purpose of the three phase project  The aim is to develop tools to evaluate care and to develop contents of education.
