Research

Jenny Paananen (PhD, Finnish language, University of Turku, Finland) combines multimodal conversation analysis with interactional linguistics and content analysis to explore co-operational resources and social involvement in clinical interaction. As data, Paananen uses interviews and recorded, authentic interaction (such as primary care consultations, mental health rehabilitation meetings, and negotiations in dementia care).

Currently, Paananen is PI in the project Alongside Dementia, funded by the Academy of Finland (2020-2023). The project is executed in the department of Nursing Science in the University of Turku as a part of the Research programme Older Individuals’ Health, Nursing and Services.

Paananen has previously worked as a postdoctoral researcher in the project Interaction, social inclusion, and mental illness in the University of Helsinki. Paananen defended her doctoral dissertation Constructing mutual understanding in multicultural primary care consultations in March 2019.
