Academic degrees: University Diploma in Psychology 1975, PhD in education 1989, both at Lund University.

Professor in Educational Work at Umeå University since 2002, and a visiting professor at University of Turku since 2015. I was the vice vice chancellor of Umeå University in 2003-2008 and the Secretary General of European Educational Research Association (EERA) in 2005-2008.


I mainly supervise and teach at postgraduate level, and at the programme of study and vocational counselling at undergraduate level. Teaching areas: educational theory and research methods, youth transitions, education policy and governance


My research mainly concerns education policy, and young people´s trajectories and choices in policy, institutional and individual perspectives. Spaces for learning in higher education constitutes a third research field. I have been the principal investigator of numerous research projects, commonly funded by the Swedish research councils, and in addition I have participated in a range of Swedish and international research projects. I am the leader of the cross-disciplinary research program "Education Policy and Young People´s Transitions", engaging some 20 senior and junior researchers.
