Research

In my dissertation study I examine the use of the generic 3rd person singular in the Arkisyn database of conversational Finnish. The objectives of my study are to find out how these generic 3rd person or zero subject constructions are syntactically formed, what their functions are in conversation, what kind of verbs are used and how all the aforementioned affects the construing of the reference of a zero subject construction. I employ both quantitative and qualitative methods in my dissertation in order to produce a comprehensive overall picture of the zero subject constructions based on a large database.
