Next call for applications will be open on September 3 - September 21, 2018. 

The application period begins on September 3, 2018 (00:00 UTC+3) and ends on September 21, 2018 (23:59:59 UTC+3). The application form is electronic. Applications arrived after the closing date for applications are not processed.

The right to pursue a doctoral degree at the University of Turku can be applied for by persons who have graduated in Finland or abroad a higher education degree which in the awarding country gives eligibility for the doctoral studies (Section 37 of the Universities Act 558/2009).

The degree that gives eligibility for the study right for a doctoral degree must be completed by the application deadline, 21 September 2018. However, in the Faculty of Science and Engineering students graduating after the application deadline may apply, on the condition that the certified copy of the original degree certificate (in the original language) and final transcript, and their English, Finnish or Swedish translations (or an English-language Diploma Supplement) are submitted and arrive at the University of Turku by 30 November 2018 at 15:00 (local time in Finland). When applying for
Information Systems Science at Turku School of Economics, the applicant must graduate at the latest on 21 September 2018.

Those applicants who have been granted the right to study and who have completed their studies at a university abroad have to submit original or officially certified copies of the degree certificates, other educational documents and the official translations of the documents to the University of Turku according the instructions given in the admission notification.

Please note that the schedule for submitting the documents after the notice of acceptance is very tight. More information on submitting degree certificates and transcripts will be given with the acceptance email. Please keep your original degree certificates and other relevant educational documents at hand during the application process.


Application procedure in the Autumn and Spring application rounds

In both the Autumn application round and the Spring application round there is only one stage in the application procedure. At that stage the applicant has to deliver all the required documents including research plan and an agreement on supervision of the studies. An applicant has to agree with a supervisor and a research director of supervision and a research plan before the application can be made.
 

Requirements of Degree Certificates

If the applicant has completed the former degree(s) which make him/her eligible for doctoral studies at a university in Finland, the degree certificates, the transcripts of study records and other educational documents which may influence in the student selection must be attached in the electronic application form as scanned files.

If the applicant has completed the former degree(s) which make him/her eligible for doctoral studies at a university abroad (i.e. outside Finland), the degree certificates, the transcripts of study records and other educational documents, which may influence in the student selection must be attached in the electronic application form as scanned files. If the original degree certificates and other educational documents are not written in English, Finnish or Swedish, official translations to one of these languages are required. Translations of the educational documents must be issued by the awarding institution, officially certified copy of a translation issued by the awarding institution, translated by an official translator or an officially certified copy of a translation made by an official translator.

Those applicants who have been granted the right to study and who have completed their studies at a University abroad have to submit officially certified copies of the degree certificates, other educational documents and the official translations of the documents to the University of Turku according to the instructions given in the admission notification. The right to study for a doctoral degree is conditional until this is done.

The applicant has to give permission for the University of Turku to check the authenticity of the documents provided. A signed notice of consent with a copy of the passport are recommended to be attached to the application (authorisation form).
