​The first GSM call was made with a Nokia phone over the Nokia-built network of a Finnish operator called Radiolinja in 1991, and in the same year Nokia won contracts to supply GSM networks in other European countries. 

Finnish company Nokia was the world leader in mobile phones in 1998, a position it enjoyed for more than a decade.


Mobile Phones

The operators in Finland are  

Finland boasts the lowest mobile communication prices in Europe, high-quality networks and great coverage. Campaign offers of operators may vary significantly, so it is advisable to just ask around at the different operator shops about the service packages of smart phone and wifi connection. Mostly the data package cost is around 20-25 euros/month.

The easiest and most reasonable option is to get a pre-paid connection. These pre-paid connections can be bought in any R-Kioski and in the operator shops. These pre-paid packages do not require deposits or any official documents.

Numbers in the Turku  area are written without the 02-area code. When calling from a mobile phone you need to use the area code of the place you are calling, including 02 even if you are in Turku when you make the call.
