In Finland practically all the medicine is sold only at pharmacies (apteekki/apotek). These include e.g. painkillers. Medication that is prescription-free in other countries often require a prescription in Finland. However, painkillers, vitamins and micronutrients (Calsium, Magnesium, etc.) are available without prescription. Micronutrients are sold also in grocery stores.

Pharmacies are normally open: Mon–Fri 9 – 18 and Sat 9 – 15. Yliopiston Apteekki has the longest opening hours: every day 7-23. In Turku there is unfortunately not a single pharmacy open 24/7.
