In Turku, child psychiatry recognises the inseparable connection between the psychological well-being of children and society. Factors such as the COVID pandemic, war, and migration have a significant impact on the mental health of children and adolescents. In addition to conducting cutting-edge research, Turku is actively developing means to make an impact on psychological well-being from an early stage within primary health care, starting from maternity clinics.

The University of Turku was the most popular university in this spring’s second joint application round for the Finnish-language degree programmes which ended on 27 March 2024. The total number of applicants to the University's Finnish-language degree programmes was 31,824, which is also the highest number of applicants ever to the University of Turku. The previous applicant record from 2021 (31,511) was broken in the last hour of the application round.

This year, BioCity Symposium is arranged on-site in Mauno Koivisto Centre, BioCity on 29–30 August 2024, with the title Unleashing the power of metabolism. Registration is open until Friday, 16 August 2024.

BioCity Turku opens a funding call for researchers belonging to BioCity Turku research programs.

Research Flagship Centre INVEST is commissioning an international external assessment of its activities and future options as the first Finnish Flagship. The assessment will help INVEST and its host organisations to decide on the future of its activities after the end of the current flagship period. 

In the context of the 33rd BioCity Symposium (29-30 August 2024) the twentieth Elias Tillandz prize will be awarded for the best scientific paper published in 2023 in Turku.

Frontiers of Science seminar program is ready for spring 2024. All seminars are on-site only at 12:00 in BioCity, Presidentti auditorium. Coffee and sandwich are served before each seminar.

The University of Turku will educate future experts in Public Mental Health. The new Master’s Degree Programme will welcome its first students in August 2024.
