The Faculty of Medicine at the University of Turku organises a ceremonial conferment of doctoral degrees on 25–27 May 2023. Five honorary doctors will be conferred in the ceremony. They will receive the title of honorary doctor for their scientific merits, collaboration with the Faculty, and their impact on society.
The Hospital District of Southwest Finland has chosen the Turku Immunology Centre as its unit of excellence. The Centre, which was established at the end of 2021, was also selected to the Roadmap for Research Infrastructures of the University of Turku.

BioCity Symposium is one of the most important meetings in Turku region for researchers working in the fields of bio- and molecular medicine. Obesity risk factors of family background are associated with changes in the brain function, finds a study conducted at the Finnish Turku PET Centre. The results show that the function of neural networks regulating satiety and appetite is altered already before a person develops obesity.
A Finnish study coordinated by the Research Centre of Applied and Preventive Cardiovascular Medicine at the University of Turku shows that exposure to cardiovascular risk factors, such as high blood pressure, elevated serum cholesterol, and obesity, from childhood to midlife are associated with poor cognitive performance in midlife. Importantly, the worse the cardiovascular risk factor profile and the higher the number of the risk factors was, the poorer cognitive performance was observed.
The Sleep Research Centre is a multidisciplinary research group, which is reflected in the topics of the academic dissertations. There are several ongoing research projects in co-operation with other Finnish and international research groups.
Adolescent Psychiatry offers studies in the specialty of youth psychiatry for undergraduate students as well as postgraduate professional education for physicians specialising in the field. Undergraduate studies in adolescent psychiatry are provided as part of the course curriculum for psychiatry during the spring term of the fourth year of studies.
