Library 2121 – the Next Century of the Turku University Library

To celebrate the library’s centenary, the library staff planned and organised a future-peeking panel discussion. Due to digitalisation and open science, the nature of the library profession and academic publishing is changing rapidly, which stimulates debate both in (virtual) coffee rooms as well as in the offices of library directors.

Volter Kilpi – A Book Chaos Clearing Visionary

Volter Kilpi (1874–1939) may be best known as a Finnish author, but he also had a long library career. Kilpi worked as the first head librarian of the Turku University Library from 1921 until his death. Kilpi’s legacy is clearly seen in the classification system, which is still in use in some of the library’s collections, and also in the Volter database named after him.
