Beneath the forest canopy of Finland lies a world teeming with life. The POOL project, which has investigated the dynamic life and ecological importance of seasonal wetlands in Finland, is organizing a final exhibition and closing seminar combining science and art at the Botanic Garden of the University of Turku in November.
The University of Turku Nature2100 fund (Luonto2100-rahasto) that was established last year under the Turku University Foundation has bought its first forests close to Kurjenrahka national park. The two areas that are situated in Pöytyä’s Yläne region constitute altogether 25 hectares. The aim is to enhance the biodiversity and carbon sink of the areas, as well as the possibilities for recreational use.
The Nature2100 fund (Luonto2100-rahasto) uses donated funds to acquire forest areas that will enhance positive development in biodiversity and the recreational use of forests. A particular aim is to expand and diversify existing conservation and hiking areas in southern Finland.
