The Finnish Academy of Science and Letters has compiled a joint declaration with signatures from 12 universities, 4 foundations and 9 other scientific actors that seek to create a community of researchers and science supporters to act as pioneers of the sustainability transformation. The undersigned invite all scientific organisations and science funding agencies to work together.

The QS Sustainability Rankings 2025 listed a total of 1744 universities according to sustainability and responsibility criteria. The University of Turku improved its international ranking from 303 to 252, despite a significant increase in the number of universities included in the ranking from the previous year.

The University of Turku, Turku University of Applied Sciences, Åbo Akademi University, and Novia University of Applied Sciences have set up a joint cooperation group for sustainable development. The group’s objective is to promote regional cooperation, with a particular emphasis on themes related to sustainability and responsibility.
