A musician's note reading speed and capability to effectively scan the notation are the keys to successful playing, found researchers as they were examining the music reading of players of different skill levels in an extensive experimental research project. Measurable differences in eye movements between beginner and professional musicians can be mere tenths of a second, but during that time a well-versed player has time to add flourish and play around with the music, interpreting it in their own manner.

An emergency exercise was organised on the lower campus of the University of Turku on 13 September. It was part of a more extensive Syystammi18 drill by the Finnish Defence Forces.

The emergency exercise that took place at Educarium has ended. The area can now be accessed normally.

The University of Turku will establish the Master’s Degree Programme in Software Engineering in co-operation with the University of Namibia next year. Simultaneously, the University strengthens its position on the growing education market of Africa.

There will be nearly fifty open vacancies for fixed-term doctoral candidate positions at the University of Turku from 1 January 2019 onwards. The call for applications will be open 3–21 September 2018. This is already the sixth year for all the 16 doctoral programmes to open their call for applications simultaneously.
