Mika Korkeakoski is Development Director (Mekong, Caribbean) for PROCEED (Cuba, Jamaica, Barbados) and SUCCEED (Myanmar, Cambodia and Lao PDR) projects focusing on institutional capacity building of Higher Education Institutions on Climate Change, Renewable Energy and Sustainable Development.

Mika has returned to FFRC in January 2014, after three years as the Regional Environment Adviser for Poverty-Environment Initiative at the United Nations’ Environment Programme (UNEP) Regional Office of Asia and Pacific in Bangkok.

Mika has extensive international work and research experience in the fields of poverty reduction, climate change, and sustainable development varying from sanitation to energy and from environmental economics to impact assessments. Mika's previous work has focused on countries such as India, Nepal, Bhutan and Bangladesh in South Asia, Myanmar, Lao PDR, Cambodia, Indonesia and the Philippines in South East Asia, Africa through UNDP Tanzania and he is looking forward for his new task with the Caribbean region. Mika has been managing international projects for a number of years and is well aware of global development challenges by working with public and private sector as well as with national and international actors.


 Projects and Research Groups:

Sustainable Development Futures​ (SDF) Research Group conducts energy and climate research and designs and implements capacity-building in the developing regions of the world.
