Petri Tapio is Professor in Futures Research at Finland Futures Research Centre (FFRC) of the University of Turku. He is also Adjunct Professor (Docent) of Environmental Science & Policy at the University of Helsinki.

He is interested in the theoretical foundations of interdisciplinary environmental research and futures studies. He uses and develops various communicative futures research methods, such as scenarios, futures workshops and the Delphi method.

Petri Tapio has been involved in empirical applications into transport, energy, agri-food systems and environmental education. His most important innovations include the Disaggregative Policy Delphi, the Decoupling Diamond and a meta-analysis of the paradigm typologies in futures studies.

Petri Tapio has authored or coauthored over 80 research publications and additional popular pieces of work. He has participated in several research projects funded by the Academy of Finland, Finnish Ministries and the European Social Fund. Although he has been nominated as the leader of the FIDEA group, the group is based on a real team work rather than supervisors and subordinates.
