Annastiina Mäkilä
I am doctoral candidate in the Doctoral Programme JUNO, the School of History, Culture and Arts Studies at the University of Turku. My field of research is cultural history and I am interested in the human mind – how it is understood in culture, and how this understanding affects our everyday lives. I am working on my thesis, preliminarily entitled Defining depression in Finnish education of professionals in mental care 1980- 1995. The thesis will consist of four articles ‒ of which three will focus on different materials: the curricula and teaching of Psychology at the University of Turku and the University of Tampere, as well as the curricula of medicine at these universities. The fourth article discusses these different materials, compares and analyzes the findings. The overall aim of my thesis is to demonstrate and scrutinize the connections between education and the surrounding culture.

Currently I have funding for my PhD project (12 months) from The Finnish Cultural Foundation.
