Squirrel Ecology

My research focuses on mammalian dispersal behaviour and factors explaining species occurrence in the landscape. As study organisms I use Siberian flying squirrels and red squirrels. I have done extensive studies on squirrel dispersal and prospecting behaviour with radio telemetry. Recently I have become interested on relationship between squirrels and their avian predators. Future interest lies in explaining what determines squirrel population size in the landscape. What is the role of landscape structure, habitat, dispersal behaviour, food and predators in explaining population size? For this aim my research team and collaborators will combine extensive field data and modern modelling tools.
