Translation Studies Research

Translation studies research in the Multilingual Translation Studies Degree Programme at the University of Turku is diverse and interdisciplinary.

Our main research interests lie in literary translation, translation history, translation technology, language contacts, translator training, and audiovisual translation. Our researchers have wide networks both nationally and internationally. The university is often visited by foreign researchers. We also collaborate in networks (e.g. History and Translation Network, SubComm, IndirecTrans), joint publications, and project funding calls. The annual national KäTu Symposia on Translation and Interpreting Studies have been held in Turku in 2003, 2008, 2013 and 2018. In addition to translation researchers, students, and teachers, the KäTu Symposia bring together professional translators and interpreters, businesses, and other stakeholders, which promotes dialogue between education, research, and the translation industry. In the symposium at Turku in spring 2023, KäTu celebrated its 20 years of history.

Doctoral training in Turku is organized under the Utuling doctoral programme at the School of Languages and Translation Studies. The doctoral training is a part of the international ID-TS programme. The university also co-organizes the international translation studies summer school (DOTTSS).

Our researchers form the Translation Studies Research Network of the University of Turku (TYKÄT).
