Research at the Department of Biochemistry

At the Department of Biochemistry we conduct high-quality research that focuses on structure and function of proteins, photosynthesis and bioenergetics, in vitro diagnostics, and food sciences.

The scientific research at the Department of Biochemistry is a diverse combination of fundamental research and applied science. The focus areas extensively cover the field of modern biochemistry of bacteria, lower eukaryotes, metazoa and plants. Our research spans a wide range of topics from structure-function interplay of biomolecules, metabolism and regulation to related analytical, food scientific and diagnostic applications.

Collectively, the research involves over 30 individual research groups within the four parallel disciplines of the department funded by the Academy of Finland, European Union, Business Finland as well as companies and foundations.
