Digitalisation Programme

The Digitalisation Programme is a roadmap for the digitalisation measures at the University of Turku

The goal of the Digitalisation Programme is to engage the whole University community to co-create a digital learning and research environment with societal impact.

The University of Turku utilises the Digitalisation Programme to implement its Strategy 2030. The Digitalisation Programme is the University’s shared view on how the available resources should be allocated to different measures in order to benefit the University the most. Its implementation supports the University community in the digital revolution and helps the members of the University community to stay at the forefront of development in teaching and research by increasing the ability and willingness to seize the opportunities brought by digitalisation.

Goals of the Digitalisation Programme

We inspire unique learning experiences and outstanding learning outcomes

Our goal is a physical and virtual learning environment that is genuinely user-oriented, accessible, and up-to-date, supports communality and learner guidance, and steers the learners to the right direction throughout their university studies. We want to be pioneers in the digital competences of teachers and students and fully utilise the potential of digitalisation in teaching.

  • We develop learning environments and support services based on the needs of the learners and teachers, proactively experimenting with new solutions and collaboration models. Time- and place-independent learning and multi-modal teaching further increase the use of technology in teaching.

  • We support teachers in strengthening their competence in digital pedagogy.

  • The transformation towards open and continuous learning challenges our digital environments in regard to e.g. license management, storage capacity, and reaching new user groups. We support flexible opportunities for lifelong learning and supplementing expertise at different points of career development through the prospects of digitalisation.

  • We also support continuous learning and teaching reform through the Digivision 2030 collaboration.

  • We support the progress of studies and aid learning and teaching with learning analytics. Developing the information resources related to studying supports the creation of digital services aimed at students, teachers, and the management.

We cultivate an engaging and exceptional research environment

Our goal is to have exceptional research environments which enable excellent scientific research with great impact. The attractiveness of the academic career, the University’s external obligations, and the funders’ conditions require strong research support and management from the University.

  • We continue to develop our research environments so that they highlight the latest technological solutions, top experts, and engaging, responsible, and networked open research infrastructures.

  • We support national and international research collaboration with platforms for interaction and by developing collaboration tools. We encourage the implementation and development of new operational models.

  • We strengthen the visibility of research, researchers, and research groups as well as the openness and impact of research by developing digital solutions.

  • We streamline the research support processes by developing digital solutions and offering training. We pay particular attention to the services and processes related to data management.

  • We create an up-to-date and extensive information base to support research leadership and to secure support for responsible assessment of research and researchers.

We are a proactive and dynamic partner

Our goal is to compile the information related to partnerships in one place to enable the development of co-operation and communications with the surrounding society and national and international partners. To develop partnerships and societal impact, the University needs high-quality, user-oriented and supported environments for interacting, organising events, and sharing meaningful contents.

  • We systematically collect information about the partnerships in the partnership management system, which enables fluent, open, and transparent sharing of information related to partnerships.

  • We create reports based on the information we have collected on the partnerships to support decision-making, the University’s strategic development, and communications.

  • Our up-to-date and functional solutions and services supporting stakeholder communications benefit both the University and our partners. We offer our community tools for two-way interaction and engagement as well as support for using them.

  • We enable the community to organise high-quality virtual and hybrid events. We offer the latest, user-friendly equipment for the community for organising events as well as user support and ensuring accessibility.

  • We produce digital services in close collaboration with our regional partners.

We are an active expert community

Our goal is a current, user-oriented, and interactive operational environment and culture which encourage continuous development of competence and well-being. We want to be a forerunner in the staff and students’ digital competence.

  • We have modern tools that serve our diverse needs. We make sure that the community is familiar with them and is able to use them by strengthening the staff and students’ digital competence.

  • We offer our community opportunities for continuous development of competence and well-being with the help of digital tools. We help our community to share their competence and good practices efficiently on digital platforms.

  • We support the building of an interactive work and study culture with diverse digital solutions and encourage the use of digital platforms in collaborative work and for creating engagement.

  • We develop the operational environment and culture sustainably with foresight and by taking into account the different needs of the users. We streamline our service processes and make finding information easier.

  • We support the directors and supervisors in open and excellent leadership. We develop skills and tools for knowledge-based management. We streamline leadership processes with digital solutions.
