The Opening Carnival is organised at the Old Great Square

The Opening Carnival is organised on Tuesday, 6 September at 12.15–4pm at the Old Great Square (address Vanha Suurtori 3). The University of Turku and the Student Union organise the Opening Carnival together. The Carnival welcomes the students and staff to celebrate the new academic year.

The programme of the Opening Carnival starts with awarding the teacher and course of the year and with music. The Carnival continues with the Student Union’s programme. In addition to following the stage programme, the participants can explore the different stands of the over 60 subject-specific and hobby organisations of Student Union and the services of the University of Turku.

The Student Union celebrates its 100th anniversary this year. In the honour of the centenary, the Opening Carnival is organised at the Old Great Square so that the citizens of Turku also have the possibility to learn more about the University and Student Union.

“The last two academic years were opened while restrictions on public gatherings were shadowing the autumn. Now we can finally start the academic year together: we have a chance to meet each other and welcome the new students to our University community. Now is the time to strengthen and engage in interaction,” says Rector Jukka Kola.

The event will be organised if the weather permits. In case of rain, the Opening Carnival will be held at Educarium on the University campus (address Assistentinkatu 5). The University community will be informed about this on the intranet pages and Facebook and Twitter accounts of the University of Turku at the latest on the morning of the event day.
