Within the framework of the University’s global education services, the University has made a significant, multi-year partnership agreement with the Chilean Plus Finland education sector company. Teachers from the Teacher Training School of the University of Turku planned and will be organising a training programme for the Plus Finland’s selected trainers, after which these trainers who have received training in accordance with the programme will put it into practice in the local schools to train the Chilean principals.

The online lecture series “Erno Lehtinen Online Colloquium” ELOC will begin this October 7 at the University of Turku. The interactive lecture series celebrates the 70th birthday of Professor of Education Erno Lehtinen and his decades-long exemplary research career.

Postdoctoral Researcher, Docent Jake McMullen from University of Turku’s Faculty of Education has won the esteemed Erik De Corte biennial award at this year’s international EARLI 2019 Conference in Aachen, Germany.

For five weeks, a group of teachers from Hong Kong visited the Department of Teacher Education at the University of Turku and the Turun normaalikoulu school to learn more about the Finnish education system and teacher education. As for the special characteristics of the Finnish education system, the visitors were particularly interested in phenomenon-based learning, teacher’s independent role, and focusing on the pedagogical aspect of teaching.

A recent study revealed students at an international school in Finland significantly outperformed U.S. students on tasks which measure digital literacy in social media and online news. The researchers suggest this may be due to the Finnish and International Baccalaureate curricula’s different way of facilitating students’ critical thinking skills compared to the U.S. system and curriculum. The results of this study were published in the Journal of Research in International Education in April.

The 24 Namibian teacher students at the Department of Teacher Education in Rauma will return to their home country at the beginning of December to finalise their studies in Namibia. Before completing their degree, the students still have to carry out a three-month teaching practice in their home country. The Department of Teacher Training at the Faculty of Education of the University of Turku in Rauma is responsible also for the finalising of the education.
