Research

Abolfazl is a critical tourism studies scholar whose research examines the political, economic, and social processes shaping tourism development and its consequences for destinations and local communities. His research interests include overtourism, touristification, tourism governance, tourism boycotts, and the politics and ethics of tourist consumption. He is particularly interested in how tourism transforms places, redistributes power and resources, affects residents’ everyday lives, and generates contestation over who benefits from tourism and who bears its costs. His work also examines how tourists respond to ethical and political concerns through consumption choices, including boycotts and other forms of consumer activism.
