Through strategic partnerships the University of Turku wants to build strengths-based cooperation that promotes sustainable growth, competitiveness and vitality of both parties, supported by the research, education and social interaction produced by the University.
The university level strategic partnerships aim at a long-term and close cooperation that supports the growth and competitiveness of both parties involved.
University of Turku Strategic Partners are Bayer Nordic, Meyer Turku, The City of Turku, Wärtsilä, Wellbeing services county of Southwest Finland, Turku University of Applied Sciences, and Åbo Akademi University.
The university level and strategic parnerships as a whole are led by the Vice Rector of impact Maija S. Peltola. The University of Turku has appointed Key Account Managers (KAM) for the partnerships. Their role is to ensure smooth operative cooperation with the partner. They can provide further information on partnerships and are happy to discuss about the possibilities to start a new collaboration with a partner.

The University of Turku and Bayer Nordic signed a strategic partnership agreement in early 2021. The goal of the partnership agreement is to deepen and expand cooperation in the multidisciplinary university's research and education fields, such as life sciences, pharmaceutical development, industrial engineering and health technology.

The University of Turku's first strategic partnership was signed with Meyer Turku Oy in March 2020. The goal of the strategic partnership agreement is to develop and strengthen education and research especially in technology. In practice, the organizations carry out, for example, joint student projects, diploma theses and educational events, expert lectures and workshops.

Throughout its existence, the University of Turku has operated in close interaction with the city of Turku. The cooperation was further strengthened when the parties agreed on a strategic partnership in June 2022. The common goal of the partnership is the continuous improvement of the conditions for well-being in the region. The cooperation aims to strengthen the knowledge base of the region, the business environment's operating conditions and competitiveness, and internationality.

The University of Turku and Wärtsilä Finland Oy signed a strategic partnership agreement in the fall of 2022. The goal of the agreement is to strengthen cooperation between the parties in both research and education. The purpose of the partnership agreement is to initiate joint research projects that aim to make the best possible use of the university's interdisciplinary expertise. The goal is also to increase students' working life contacts in the form of projects, visits and internships, among other things.

A well-being and vibrant Southwest Finland is a shared goal of Varha and the University of Turku, and this is promoted through research-based knowledge, educational cooperation, and encouraging innovation.

The aim of the strategic partnership of the University of Turku and Turku University of Applied Sciences is to develop a new model for a higher education community that builds on the strengths of both parties. Collaboration is being developed in areas such as doctoral training and research infrastructure.
The partnership of the University of Turku and Åbo Akademi University is based on the distinctive characteristics and strengths of both universities, which complement each other in research and education. Together with the region’s universities of applied sciences, the universities form a diverse cluster of expertise that generates well-being and international competitiveness across society as a whole.
