Martikainen

I am a researcher in political theory and phenomenology with the Agency as Experience and Capacity project. My research focuses on what it means to feel like a capable political agent, and investigates the experiential conditions of meaningful political agency. My recent book Political Poverty: Losing Faith in Democracy (Palgrave Macmillan, 2025) puts forward an experientialist account of political inequality that places perceptual experience at the center of our thinking on political freedom.
