Biography
Currently, I am a doctoral researcher in Art History, Musicology and Media Studies. My academic background lies in Library and Information Science, an inherently interdisciplinary field that acts as a bridge between diverse academic domains. Alongside my academic background, I am a professional Santur player. I trained for ten years under the celebrated master Sousan Dehlavi, completing advanced studies and mastering the complete Persian Radif (the classical vocal and instrumental repertoire).
I am particularly interested in: Music and identity within diasporic and immigrant communities ;Documentation, archiving, and digital preservation of cultural heritage and traditional music;Performance practice in Iranian classical music;Ethnographic methods for studying immigrant musicians.
Teaching
I have extensive teaching experience at the higher education level, having taught Bachelor's students in Library and Information Science and Master's students in Scientometrics at universities in Iran (2017-2023)
Research
Since moving to Finland, my focus has naturally expanded to reflect my own experience as an Iranian immigrant seeking the resonance of Persian instruments in a new cultural landscape. I am particularly keen to explore how Persian music adapts within the increasingly multicultural fabric of Finnish society—specifically, how the Iranian diaspora uses traditional music to ease nostalgia and alienation, thereby fostering a deeper sense of belonging and connection with their host culture. Through this interdisciplinary lens, I aim to contribute fresh perspectives to Ethnomusicology and the study of Music and Migration .
My research sits at the intersection of Information Science and Ethnomusicology.
