Biography

I work as a Professor of Nursing Science at the Department of Nursing Science at the University of Turku, in the field of population health choices and health promotion. My title of Docent is in health promotion, with a particular focus on the school context.


I also work part-time at the University of Eastern Finland in the Institute of Public Health and Clinical Nutrition.

Teaching

Health promotion, health communication, research methodology. Supervision of theses: master's theses and doctoral dissertations.

Research

My research focuses on children’s and adolescents’ health literacy and health behaviors, with particular attention to the roles and responsibilities of both home and school in fostering and supporting children’s health competence.

I serve as the national co-principal investigator of the WHO Health Behaviour in School-aged Children (HBSC) study in Finland and lead the research group Environments for Children’s and Adolescents’ Health Learning. I am also a member of the Health Promoting Schools research group, the coordination team of the EERA Network on Health and Wellbeing Education, and the Global Health Literacy Research network.
