Nadia Nava-Contreras holds a M.A. in History of the Americas from Universidad Michoacana (Mexico). She is currently a Doctoral Candidate in Political History at the University of Helsinki (exp. 2022). Her dissertation on Finnish-Mexican relations during the 20th Century addresses diplomatic encounters and the construction of mutual imaginaries.
At the John Morton center, Nava-Contreras as worked in the CUBAFLUX project that studies recent experiences of urban transformation in Havana.
At the Cubaflux project, Nadia Nava has conducted research on internet cultures in Cuba, particularly focusing on young YouTubers and other social media influencers. She is also interested in the broader debate about the nature and functioning of the Cuban public sphere, and its transnational and digital implications.
