Biography
I am an interdisciplinary researcher drawing on my social scientific and anthropological background to study the multi-actor and cross-sectoral collaboration and innovation ecosystems required for sustainability transitions. I am particularly interested in how change and sustainability take shape in the everyday work of organisations and from the perspectives of different actors: What are their key manifestations, tensions and contradictions? How can shared direction and collective action emerge from multiple voices and distributed agency?
I study renewal and agency both within and between organisations, for example in innovation ecosystems and networks. My research draws particularly on qualitative and ethnographic methods, which make it possible to examine the lived meanings, practices and realities of change. Theoretically, I work especially with practice-based perspectives, temporal work and approaches to organisational culture. Additionally, my background as a researcher of Japanese society brings an international perspective to my work, and I am interested in sustainability collaboration between cities.
If you are interested in exploring, for example, why actors may seek change yet change still fails to materialise, please feel free to get in touch.
Teaching
I have designed and taught sustainability-related courses in international collaboration. These include a MOOC on sustainable campus development developed together with experts from the Philippines, Indonesia, China and Nigeria, as well as a jointly taught course with Filipino colleagues that engages students in problem-solving around sustainable development. I also have teaching experience in qualitative research methods, research process design, and contemporary Japanese society.
