Biography
Seam is a doctoral researcher in Information Systems Science at the Turku School of Economics, University of Turku, and a member of the Doctoral Programme in Technology (DPT). His research examines AI governance in organizations, focusing on how firms delegate authority to AI systems, structure human oversight, and design mechanisms for override and re-intervention after deployment. His doctoral work is supervised by Professor Matti Mäntymäki and Assistant Professor Matti Minkkinen. Before starting his PhD, Seam worked as a project researcher, building API-based data pipelines and conducting organizational policy analysis. He holds an MSc in Business Analytics.
Research
Seam's research examines how organizations govern artificial intelligence systems after deployment. He focuses on three interrelated areas: the delegation of authority to AI systems within organizational decision-making, the design of human oversight mechanisms that keep AI-supported processes accountable, and the procedures organizations use to override or re-intervene in AI-driven outcomes when needed. This work sits within information systems science and draws on organizational theory, governance research, and socio-technical systems perspectives.
As part of his doctoral research, Seam is conducting a systematic literature review mapping how AI governance mechanisms are conceptualized and studied across the information systems and management literature, distinguishing between mechanism design (delegation, oversight structures) and mechanism operation (re-intervention in practice).
