Biography

I was a university teacher and lecturer at the University of Turku from 2021 to 2025. I specialize in pragmatics, discourse analysis, dispositive analysis and landscape research. My background is in English language and literature and geography. As a doctoral researcher I further broadened my horizons, studying linguistics, semiotics, philosophy, sosiology and geography.

I am interested in landscapes, nightscapes, video games and virtual reality. I utilize photography, videography and virtual reality technology.

Teaching

I have been responsible for several courses:

  • Academic Writing and Speaking (ENGL2016)
  • Critical Discourse Analysis (ENGL3147)
  • Discourse Studies and Pragmatics (ENGL2007)
  • Language, Meaning and Action (ENGL2021)
  • Spoken English (ENGL1010)

I have also teached three courses in collaboration with my colleagues:

  • English Language and Linguistics (ENGL1013)
  • Texts and Contexts I (ENGL3156)
  • Texts and Contexts II (ENGL3157)

I have also been responsible for seminars, maturity tests and thesis supervision:

  • Proseminar + BA thesis (ENGL2011)
  • BA degree Finnish language maturity test (HTDK0009)
  • Discourse and Philology Thesis Seminar (ENGL3180) + MA thesis (ENGL4116)

My responsibities have also included handling matters related to interships:

  • Internship (working life) (KKLT0047)
  • Internship (project) (KKLT0050)

In addition, I have held guest lectures on landscape research.

Research

My research is interdisciplinary. I draw from a broad range of fields, including but not limited to linguistics, literature, semiotics, geography and sociology. My work is influenced by continental philosophy (Deleuze, Foucault, Guattari) and sociology (Bourdieu, Tarde).

My most recent research focuses on landscapes, nightscapes, video games and virtual reality. In the past I have studied use of language in politics and in the media.
