Biography
I have been a doctoral researcher at the Department of Education, the University of Turku since September, 2024; before beginning my studies, I had worked as an International Programs Advisor at the International Cooperations Office in my alma mater, Middle East Technical University (METU) for almost 6 years. Coming from the background of international office professional, I identify myself as a researcher & ex-practitioner in internationalization of higher education.
During my worklife at the International Office, I further developed my interests in internationalization as a research topic as I had the opportunity to get involved in the implementation of policies and to observe first-hand experiences of the internationally mobile individuals. As an early-career researcher, my ambition is to critically examine internationalization of higher education in my doctoral studies and to establish an identity of scholar-practitioner in this field.
Teaching
During my undergraduate education, I had the opportunity to teach English to different learner groups (ranging from the ages of 5 to 20) for a duration of two semesters, one-semester for the university-students at the level of A1 in my university and the other semester in Granada, Spain within the scope of Erasmus+ mobility program.
Ater my bachelor's degree, I became a full-time English teacher at a primary school teaching English to the 3rd and 4th graders for one year. I also worked as a part-time English teacher at a language center for one-year, teaching English to the high-school students.
Research
My research concentrates on investigating a developing concept, namely internationalization of higher education for society (Brandenburg et al., 2019) from the perspectives of the academics at universities. As more and more scholars emphasize, internationalization of higher education needs critical voices by the researchers, especially in regards with the societal impacts and outcomes of internationalization. In my doctoral studies, I aspire to explore the intricate relationships between internationalization and societal impact.
