The housing situation in Turku is relatively good and student appartments are of easy walking, cycling or a bus ride distance from the campus.

In the following you will find information on different rental options, some of which operate in collaboration with the University of Turku. NB! It is your responsibility to arrange accommodation for yourself.

University of Turku cannot unfortunately guarantee or arrange housing for students and therefore we recommend that you apply housing well in advance, observing the deadlines set by individual housing providers.

TYS - Student Village Foundation

TYS is the main housing provider for exchange students. TYS offers furnished apartments to exchange students and has 2 student housing locations in Student Village and in Varissuo including shared apartments and studio apartments. TYS has 410 apartments for all exchange students/ 4 HEIs in Turku - be aware that the amount of exchange students might exceed the quota of the exchange student housing. Especially during Autumn semester there might be lack of exchange student housing in TYS.

The rent is between 300 € and 500 € / month (including water, electricity and internet).

  • The application form for Autumn semester/ academic year will open on May 1
  • The application form for Spring semester will open on October 1

Please notice: you have to fill the exchange student application to UTU before filling the housing application.

To your application the contact persons are: Kaija Kangasjärvi or Anna Ryzhova.

You can apply the housing without the admission certificate. You can enclose it to your housing application later, when you'll receive it.

You should read your e-mail daily in order to be able to confirm the accommodation offer in time.

Please check the options and further information for exchange students  at TYS's website.

Other housing possibilities

If you didn't receive a housing offer from TYS, you should take a look at the following options. These are accommodation options for situations when you have been unable to find a place to live before your arrival to Finland, and can afford to stay in these usually more expensive, but temporary, accommodations while you look for a more permanent housing solution in Turku.

Beware of scams !

Never pay any rents in advance before leaving your country.

Here are a couple of items you should watch out for :

• A landlord that wants to speed up to the process because of a lack of time.

• A landlord that is away from the city and is located abroad.

• A MobilePay Cash payment requested

Flatta - furnished and medium-term housing options for exchange students

Flatta is a digital rental platform that connects tenants and landlords. The platform is designed to streamline the rental process, ensuring that both tenants and landlords have a seamless and secure experience. We guide our Outgoing exchange students to sublet their apartments via Flatta.

As an UTU exchange student, you can get 30€ discount with code UTUSTUDENT.

Temporary accommodation

These options are more expensive and intended for shorter-term renting.

Apartment from general rental markets

Finding housing for a short period of time from the general rental markets in Turku is difficult especially during August and September.  Normally the rental agreements are done for a fixed period of a year and earlier resignation requires a penalty fee to be paid by the tenant.

You can take a look for rental apartments for example from following web-pages. Unfortunately most of the listings are written in Finnish.
