Providing Original Educational Documents

You have been admitted to University of Turku? Congratulations! On this page you may find instructions on how to submit your previous educational documents for verification.

Please note that these instructions are for students beginning their studies in a Master's Degree Programme, and for Doctoral candidates.

If you have been admitted to a Bachelor's Degree Programme and are using a Bachelor-level degree to prove your eligibility for university studies, please follow the instructions below. If you are proving your eligibility with an upper secondary credential, please follow the separate instructions stated here.

All documents, including ones sent directly to the university by your previous institution must reach University of Turku by the deadline. Giving incorrect/false information or failing to provide the university with the required documentation will lead to direct cancellation of the admission.

Have you applied with a degree from a Finnish university or Finnish university of applied sciences?
Yes

You do not have to submit the documents for verification as they have been verified electronically during the application process. We will contact you in case we need further information of your degree.

No, my degree is from a university outside Finland

a) Check the country specific requirements (see below) and provide the documents accordingly. Electronic transcripts submitted through a few recognized sources are considered originals.

b) If none of the country specific requirements applies to you, you need to submit the documents according to the general requirements:

  • The original degree certificate (in the original language) AND an English, Finnish or Swedish translation (or an English-language Diploma Supplement concerning graduates from European universities) of the degree certificate.
  • The original transcript of study records (in the original language) AND an English, Finnish or Swedish translation (or an English-language Diploma Supplement concerning graduates from European universities) of the transcript of records.
  • Also certified copies of the originals, given by the awarding institution or Finnish Register Office (Maistraatti) are accepted.

All translations must be made either by an authorized translator or by the degree awarding institution. Each page of an official translation must bear the translator’s stamp and/or signature. Official translations must be exact translations of the original documents. Translations done by the applicant him- or herself are not accepted.

Country specific requirements
Read this first!

Applicants whose degrees have been awarded in certain countries need to pay special attention to the following requirements.

In some cases the requirements only give instructions on the providing of a transcript. Please note that we require all admitted applicants to provide us both the original degree certificate and the transcript of records AND an English, Finnish or Swedish translation (or an English-language Diploma Supplement concerning graduates from European universities) of both documents unless stated otherwise in the following requirements.

The University of Turku also accepts electronic transcripts submitted through a few recognized sources, such as Truecopy and Digitary. For information on which electronic transcript sending services are accepted by the university, please see the page Electronic Transcripts. If your institution uses one of the services, you can request for your official transcript of records to be electronically sent to the University of Turku.

Please check if your degree awarding country is listed below and then follow the given instructions. The University of Turku makes no exceptions to these requirements.

Offshore Campuses
If your academic qualification was completed at an offshore campus, please follow the country-specific instructions for the country where the main university is located or accredited.

All African countries

If you have completed your degree in an African country, an official transcript of records must be submitted by post to the University of Turku directly by the awarding institution. The transcript of records must be certified with an original stamp of the institution and an original signature of the certifying officer. The envelope must be sealed by the awarding institution’s official stamp across the back flap indicating that the envelope has not been opened. Envelopes sealed with a generic stamp, such as one stating “sealed”, are not accepted.

The transcript of records must come to University of Turku directly from the awarding institution and cannot be sent by the applicant. Please note that regular photocopies are not sufficient, even if they are sent by the awarding institution. University of Turku only accepts official transcripts of record.

It is acceptable if the envelope contains other official documents awarded by the institution (e.g. degree certificate, diploma supplement, or translations of the documents).

Australia

If you have completed your degree in Australia, an official transcript of records must be submitted to the University of Turku in a sealed envelope. The envelope can be sent by the applicant or by the awarding institution.

The transcript of records must be certified with an original stamp of the institution and an original signature of the certifying officer. The envelope must be sealed with the awarding institution’s official stamp across the back flap, indicating that the envelope has not been opened. Envelopes sealed with a generic stamp, such as one stating “sealed”, are not accepted. The University of Turku accepts only official transcripts of records. Azerbaijan, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Russia and Ukraine

If you have completed your degree in one of the countries mentioned above, you must submit a copy of the official government-granted degree certificate and transcript. The original documents must be verified with an apostille by the appropriate ministry/autohrised body of the country in question, please see list below.

Azerbaijan: Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan
Belarus: Ministry of Education of the Republic of Belarus
Kazakhstan: Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Kazakhstan
Russia: the authorised body of education of the Russian Federation in your region (Федеральная служба по надзору в сфере образования и науки (Рособрнадзор)
Ukraine: Information and Image Centre (Інформаційно-іміджевий центр) of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine (Міністерство освіти і науки України)

Bangladesh

If you have completed your degree in Bangladesh, you must submit copies of the education documentation awarded by your university attested as stated below. Degree certificates and transcripts must always be awarded by the main university or a college that has a degree awarding status. Educational documents granted by affiliated colleges will not be accepted.

The copies of the degree certificate and transcript of records must be officially certified (attested) by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Bangladesh, more specifically by the Consular and Welfare Wing. Each page of the transcript of records and the degree certificate must carry the original stamp and signature of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Bangladesh. The attestation should be done onto a copy of the degree certificate and transcript, you do not need to submit the originals as the copies are attested by the Ministry.

Canada and United States of America

If you have completed your degree in Canada or USA, an official transcript of records must be submitted to the University of Turku by the awarding institution in an envelope that must be sealed by the awarding institution’s official stamp across the back flap, indicating that the envelope has not been opened. Envelopes sealed with a generic stamp, such as one stating “sealed”, are not accepted.

The transcript of records must come to University of Turku directly from the awarding institution and cannot be sent by the applicant. Please note that regular photocopies are not sufficient, even if they are sent by the awarding institution. University of Turku only accepts official transcripts of record.

You are not required to submit a copy of your degree certificate if your transcript of records includes the following information: name of the institution that awarded the degree, the date of issue, the name of the person to whom the degree was awarded and what title/degree it was.

China

Degree certificate

Apply to CDGDC (http://www.chinadegrees.cn/) or CHESICC (https://www.chsi.com.cn/) for a verification report of your degree certificate in English. Send the verification report in English to the email address admissions@utu.fi or use the Digitary service.

In addition, send a copy or scan of your degree certificate in the original language to the Admission Services of the University of Turku. This copy does not need to be officially certified.

Transcript of records:

Apply to CHESICC (https://www.chsi.com.cn/) for a verification report of your transcript of records in English. Send the verification report in English to the email address admissions@utu.fi or use the Digitary service.

In addition, send a copy or scan of your degree certificate in the original language to the Admission Services of the University of Turku. This copy does not need to be officially certified.

India

If you have completed your degree in India, an official transcript of records (consolidated)  must be submitted to the University of Turku by the awarding institution. The envelope must be sealed by the awarding institution’s official stamp across the back flap. The document must come to the University of Turku directly from the awarding institution. Please note that regular photocopies are not sufficient, even if they are sent by the awarding institution.

If your university or college in India is unable to send the transcript, mark sheet or result card to the University of Turku, please request that the attested documents be placed in an officially sealed envelope with the awarding institution’s official stamp across the back flap. Have the envelope returned to you to forward to the University of Turku. The official transcript, mark sheet or result card must in this case be attested by the Controller of Examinations or the Registrar’s Office, and the envelope must be sealed with the attesting office’s stamp across the back flap.

Transcript of records  must be awarded either by the main university or a college (autonomous or affiliated). It is acceptable if the envelope contains other official documents awarded by the institution (e.g. degree certificate and diploma supplement).

Degree certificates must always be awarded by the main university. Degree certificates granted by affiliated colleges will not be accepted.

Indonesia

If you have completed your degree in Indonesia, an official transcript of records must be submitted to the University of Turku by the awarding institution. The envelope must be sealed by the awarding institution’s official stamp across the back flap. Envelopes sealed with a generic stamp, such as one stating “sealed”, are not accepted.

The transcript of records must come to University of Turku directly from the awarding institution and cannot be sent by the applicant. Iran

If you have completed  your degree in Iran, copies of the educational documents must be legalized by the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Finnish Embassy in Tehran. Official translations of educational documents must be certified by the Ministry of Justice. Copies of copies will not be accepted. All the copies must have the original stamp given by the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Finnish Embassy in Tehran.

Ireland

If you have completed your degree in Ireland, an official transcript of records must be submitted to the University of Turku  in an envelope that must be sealed by the awarding institution’s official stamp across the back flap. The document can be submitted by the applicant or sent by the awarding institution.

The transcript of records must be certified with an original stamp of the institution and an original signature of the certifying officer. The envelope must be sealed with the awarding institution’s official stamp across the back flap, indicating that the envelope has not been opened. Italy

If you have completed your degree in Italy but have not yet received your final degree certificate, a Certificato di Laurea is sufficient to prove your educational background. Please note that the document must contain all the same information as a degree certificate and a transcript of records.

Japan

If you have completed your degree in Japan, an official transcript of records must be submitted to the University of Turku in an envelope that has been sealed by the awarding institution’s official stamp across the back flap. The document can be delivered to the University of Turku by the applicant or by the awarding institution.

The transcript of records must be certified with an original stamp of the institution and an original signature of the certifying officer. The envelope must be sealed with the awarding institution’s official stamp across the back flap, indicating that the envelope has not been opened. Envelopes sealed with a generic stamp, such as one stating “sealed”, are not accepted. University of Turku accepts only official transcripts of records. Malaysia

If you have completed your degree in Malaysia, an official transcript of records must be submitted to the University of Turku by the awarding institution.  The Transcript of records must be certified with an original stamp of the institution and an original signature of the certifying officer. The envelope must be sealed by the awarding institution’s official stamp across the back flap. Envelopes sealed with a generic stamp, such as one stating “sealed”, are not accepted.

If your university in Nepal is unable to send the transcript to the University of Turku, please request that the attested documents be placed in an officially sealed envelope with the awarding institution’s official stamp across the back flap. The official transcript must in this case be attested by the Controller of Examinations or the Registrar’s Office, and the envelope must be sealed with the attesting office’s stamp across the back flap. Pakistan

If you have completed your degree in Pakistan, you must submit the education documentation awarded by your university. Degree certificates and transcript of records must always be awarded by the main university or a college with degree-awarding status. Educational documents granted by affiliated colleges will not be accepted.

The original degree certificate and transcript of records must be certified (attested) by the Higher Education Commission (HEC). Each page of the transcript of records and the degree certificate must be stamped and signed by the HEC. All copies submitted to University of Turku must carry an original stamp by the HEC.

Documents certified before September 20, 2009 are not accepted, as the HEC stamps must be verifiable from HEC’s online service.

South Korea

If you have completed your degree in South Korea, an official transcript of records must be submitted to the University of Turku in a sealed envelope.  The envelope  can be submitted to the University of Turku by the applicant or by the awarding institution.
