Non-degree studies

University of Turku grants the right to complete non-degree studies to persons arriving in Finland from Ukraine. This study right is for persons who have the right to reside in Finland with the status of temporary protection (https://migri.fi/en/temporary-protection ) and who have a degree study right in a Ukrainian higher education institution.

The study right may be granted to individual courses or study modules. This study right does not give the right to complete a degree at the University of Turku.

It is not possible to study all study fields of the University of Turku in English and the majority of studies taught in English are on the master level.

All 8 faculties and the Center for Language and Communication Studies grant non-degree study rights to persons fleeing Ukraine and who have temporary protection status.

Please contact the faculty in question before filling the application form to ensure that you choose the study options that are in line with your previous studies and suitable for your future plans. We ask you to be patient, it may take a while for you to receive an answer as we may have to consult several people before getting back to you. Study options

Study options open for exchange students are also open for non-degree studies. In addition most courses and modules within international bachelor and master degrees are available as non-degree studies. As the majority of the studies are on the master level, it is important that the applicant has previous studies and sufficient knowledge of the field. It is also possible, that certain studies have a quota for non-degree students in which case only a few can be admitted. .

All studies offered in the Faculty of Education are open as non-degree studies. Please note, that only a limited amount of courses are taught in English. The decisions on non-degree study rights are made based on the previous studies of the applicant.

Non-degree study rights can be awarded for all studies offered to exchange students as well as to study modules that are offered as minor studies in the faculty. The decisions on non-degree study rights are made based on the previous studies of the applicant.The applicant must have sufficient language skills and knowledge of the field in order to succeed in the studies applied for. Studies with Finnish as the language of tuition require fluency in Finnish.

Faculty of Medicine

Students wishing to study medicine or dentistry need to be fluent in Finnish. The faculty offers non-degree studies in Biomedical Sciences and Nursing Science to students with a relevant academic background.

Courses within the MDP in Biomedical Sciences, in Drug Discovery and Development are open for non-degree study rights. Contact: biomedicine@utu.fi

Turku School of Economics offeres non-degree studies to persons fleeing Ukraine. The decisions on study rights will be made based on the previous studies and language skills of the applicants.

How to apply

Use this form (Apply for non-degree studies) to apply for non-degree studies. You must specify in the application form, which courses or modules you are applying for.

The application must also indicate the English language skills of the applicant (e.g. language test, transcript showing English language studies in a higher education institution or statement from the language center of your home university) and the discipline and the extent of studies completed in the past. Make sure to attach documentation relevant for the application. We will require you to prove that you are a degree student in a Ukrainian higher education institution by e.g. providing a transcript of records or a statement from your home university. You should also attach a scan of your permit card and passport.

There are no application deadlines, the application is open until further notice. The application and the attachments should be sent to admissions@utu.fi

Study rights will be granted according to the schedules of the courses and study modules, but at least until the expiration date of the right for temporary protection. No fees will be charged for non-degree studies.

Degree studies at the University of Turku

The right to complete a degree at the University of Turku can be applied for in the normal admission rounds. Studies previously completed, e.g. non-degree studies or studies at the open university can be accepted as part of the degree.

It is not possible to transfer to the University of Turku from a foreign institution to complete a degree started elsewhere. If you have a degree study right in a Ukrainian institution, you can apply for non-degree studies. These studies may be accepted as part of your current degree and enable you to graduate. Please note, that the University of Turku cannot guarantee that studies completed in Finland will be included in your current degree.

Open Programming and Database Courses – training for those receiving temporary protection

In cooperation with Turku University of Applied Sciences and with funding from the Ministry of Education and Culture, we will offer courses in programming and databases free of charge. This training provides you with the opportunity to complete 5 – 28 ECTS credits of programming and database courses. The studies are first-year studies of a bachelor’s degree programme in ICT. You can enroll on only one course or several, depending on your own needs and interests.

These studies are intended for those receiving temporary protection in Finland, but anyone with an ability to study in English at a higher education level is welcome. The studies require knowledge of English at proficiency level B1 or above. After completing the courses you select, you will receive a transcript of records from both institutions, and a separate certificate or diploma of the courses you have completed. These courses can later be accredited at your home university, or you can use them to demonstrate your competense to employers.

Open University studies

The Open University offers studies that are available to everyone regardless of age, educational aims or previous schooling. Open university courses will be offered free of charge to persons fleeing from Ukraine and who have temporary protection status.
