Uralic Typological Atlas

Keywords: language typology, cross-linguistic comparison

UraTyp 1.0 - a typological database with 360 features mainly on morphology, syntax, and phonology collected from 35 Uralic languages/language varieties. It includes 195 Grambank features (see grambank.clld.org) and 165 Uralic-specific features. The data is mostly binary answers to question "is there a function X in a language Y". UraTyp also has examples, which inform the user on the form, i.e. how the function is expressed in the language.

The database can be explored in several ways. One option is to browse the interactive database at https://uralic.clld.org according to languages. You can also download it from Zenodo.

To a large extent, both questionnaires were filled out by using grammars and grammar sketches but also involving language experts. The data collection process and data is described in Norvik et al. 2022 and in the Zenodo release Norvik et al. 2021
