Department of Spanish

The world language Spanish is, with approximately 570 million speakers, the third most spoken language after Mandarin Chinese and English. When considering only native speakers, it is the second most spoken one with 480 million. At the Department of Spanish of the University of Turku, the focus is on modern language in use (geographic and social variation, language contacts, translation).

The University of Turku is one out of two Finnish Universities which offer studies from the basic until the doctoral level and the only one offering professional level studies in translation. Teaching is grounded in research, which we aim at familiarizing students with from the initiation of studies.
