Researcher at UTU and ÅA – are you interested in establishing a company or pursuing a career involving commercial exploitation of research-based expertise and knowledge? Apply to the Business Essentials for Researchers training!
The Business Essentials for Researchers (BER) training is organized in autumn 2026 (November-December). Training is recommended especially for doctoral researchers and early career researchers (recently completed doctoral degree).
Altogether 20 participants from the University of Turku and Åbo Akademi University are selected to the training based on a motivation letter. No prior business or entrepreneurship training is required.
What do you get from the training?
The training includes lectures on business ideas, value creation of research-based inventions/innovations, the importance of IPR (intellectual property rights) in academia and companies and tech transfer process as well as workshops on business and revenue models and how to present commercial ideas to investors and other stakeholders. Furthermore, the participants learn to make a pitch of a (fictional) research-based business idea.
Flexible online studying and interactive on-site workshops
The training consists of five on-site learning sessions organized at 12:15-16:15 on 11.11., 18.11., 25.11., 2.12., and 9.12.2026.
Training is to be completed in parallel with the MOOC course From Ideas to Innovations (1ECTS) that functions as an introduction to on-site learning days. Alternatively, you can have an already completed MOOC course before starting BER training. Selected participants will be provided with a detailed programme including suggested online study periods and programme of the on-site learning days.
