New Open-Access Volume Examines Russia’s Instability and Future Trajectories
A new open access book, Inevitable Instability in Russia: Strategic Information, Intelligence and Foresight on Russia, was published just over a week ago and has already been downloaded more than 16,000 times. Edited by Professor Kari Liuhto and Research Director Joonas Sipilä, the volume brings together 20 Finnish experts to examine Russia’s political, economic, societal and security developments.
The book discusses how Russia’s full‑scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022 altered Europe’s security environment and ended long‑standing cooperation between Russia and the West. The chapters address developments in Russian governance, foreign policy, military capabilities and societal trends, as well as their potential implications for European and transatlantic security.
Key themes include:
- Russia’s changing security environment following the 2022 invasion of Ukraine
- Intelligence, foresight and information analysis related to Russia
- Military developments, European strategic autonomy and energy geopolitics
- Nuclear capabilities, Arctic resource policy and Sino–Russian relations
- Critical information gaps in Russia’s governance, economy, society and military
The book is available free of charge and published by Palgrave Macmillan. It can be accessed at: Inevitable Instability in Russia: Strategic Information, Intelligence and Foresight on Russia | Springer Nature Link
