Basics for Research Data Management (BRDM) - Course for Young Researchers and Postdocs

26.11.2021

BRDM is the 3 ETCS course dealing with many aspects of research data management, aiming to give you a solid base for responsible data management (including open science aspects).

You work out your own data management plan (DMP) based on input from academic experts, lawyers / IPR specialists, data protection officer, data librarians, biostatiscian, research computer specialist and experts from Finnish Social Science Data archive.

The course has four tracks, beginning February, 2022.:

  • Natural science
  • Health sciences
  • Qualitative research
  • Survey research

The language of the course is English, some modules available in both English and Finnish. Please find registration, further details, including learning outcomes, methods and exact dates in Peppi-system.

Note that doctoral students must register with their study right for a doctoral degree (further information in the university intranet) and the post-docs and staff members use Webropol for registration.

Course feedback from the participants:

” The most rewarding two things for me were learning how to actually make a DMP, and also, how to operate Nvivo”

“I think this course should be compulsory to all PhD students and postdocs who have not done the course yet. The course covers topics that researchers in the humanities should know, but somehow I feel like many think that considerations regarding data are not relevant to humanists.”

“Overall, my skills and knowledge increased during the course and I do feel more competent and confident to continue with my research. The course covers all the necessary issues regarding a data management plan and provides good material and resources to use also in the future.”

“Overall the course was excellent.”
